Material Testing

material.gif (83141 bytes)For over 15 years the Materials Division of ERI has been active in the area of laboratory testing of soils and construction materials used in the development of transportation facilities. Materials testing services are provided for quality control programs, as a supplement to nondestructive testing, and the development of   mix designs and research related testing. Testing services are provided in the areas of soils, aggregates, bituminous materials, and Portland Cement Concrete.

Field Services

The technical staff of ERI has the mobility and experience to provide services from the field to the laboratory. Valuable information can be collected efficiently and accurately through in-situ testing. Full-scale coring operations are provided for the collection of bituminous, concrete and stabilized pavement layer samples for use in the laboratory. Verification of pavement layer thicknesses is also accomplished through coring.

Laboratory Testing

Complete soil classification testing is performed including sieve analysis and Atterberg limit testing. Soil samples can be recompacted to develop moisture-density relationships and perform CBR testing. Confined and unconfined triaxial testing of soil materials are also available. In addition, a complete list of index properties, such as unit weight, moisture content, density and specific gravity of fine and coarse aggregates can be determined.

Qualifications

All testing procedures performed through ERI follow current ASTM and AASHTO specifications for materials testing. Services are performed by trained personnel with years of dedication in providing professional work to the field of transportation. ERI is currently listed in the ASTM International Directory of Testing Laboratories as a provider of materials and testing services.
